Jury Herz’s #MORGIANA (1972), with or without the siamese cat. Nope, #JuryHerz's Morgiana because of the siamese cat. And in my mind, I'll read the sisters, Klára and Viktorie Trangan, as one character. (Herz was "forbidden to portray #schizophrenia by the Czech administration, who deemed it sadomasochistic," hence the two sisters. Rhiannon Dalglish, Senses of Cinema). Paint my lids blue, and saturate the #palette, just be sure to pass the siamese cat. *purrs*

Waking up this morning, weary like a Dormouse, yet utterly content. An Alice moment, if ever there was. To be swept away twice, now ain't that nice. By 'I dig you' tick-tock feet, in step, as Alice falls for a Knave of Hearts and he for her. By hands placed like pillows for Alice's head. By the Caterpillar's hands, too, scaling his legs as if they were a garden path to a magic mushroom. By hands that are paws that move White Rabbit quick, by way of an ear to thwock-thwack, back and forth. By the clockwork leg and arm rotations of the tumbling deck of cards. And the Queen of course. Only she could tap-slap away the unwanted advances of her own hand as it attempted to caress her torso. Let us not forget those elongated flamingoes, with their grazing beaks for hands. Revisiting 'Alice', still carried away by its pace, #puppetry, and character, I had a chance to let some of the details sink in. Thank-you Alice (@amber_e_scott), and Knave (@kevin.j.jackson). Thank-you, Rabbit (@bulladam), you wonderful lanky guide, you. And l am your loyal servant, Queen (@amyharris_7), keeping the roses red. Last night’' @ausballet's 'Alice', a dream to share with my parents (@pasadenamansions and @peterhaby). Find me, besotted.

Perhaps because I spent my childhood, and spend my days still, surrounded by marvellous #animals, I have always enjoyed the enchantment of #LewisCarroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Once more! Once more, dear @ausballet! Give me Alice (Amber Scott) stretched tall, penning directions for her presents to her feet now located so very far away: "Alice's Right Foot, Esq. Hearthrug, near the Fender (with Alice's love)." And a pool of salty tears to swim in, splish, splash, alongside a mouse: "Oh, I beg your pardon! …. I quite forgot you didn’t like cats". A Dormouse in a patchwork dressing gown trembling right to the tip of their tail, if you please. A hedgehog for a croquet ball as well, if you're offering. Give me bejewelled, fast tinkling and light pointed feet upon a slinky Caterpillars of allurement. I'll take it all. Jellies, frilled bloomers, and a paper boat for a vessel in which to sail gently down the river. The tea sets found within large cupcakes, the floating rotations of a giant Cheshire Cat of separate parts, and all things "curiouser and curiouser". Returning to Christopher Wheeldon's three act ballet, and I couldn’t be happier. So let us go down, down, down the rabbit hole, in costumes designed by Sukie Kirk. In silk taffeta, foam, and wigged, I ask only that mine sports a tail. Come as a walrus, a Duchess. Come as Cary Grant as the Mock Turtle (in the 1933 film adaptation). Heck, come as the lead. This weekend, @stickyinstitute's zine fair, #Tonerpalooza, returns to @library_vic with a hundred #zine stalls across two days. Hurrah!

And we'll be there on the Sunday with a stall full of new (hello, 'Seasonal museum sketches' #autumn edition) and existing titles.

Tonerpalooza II is taking place in the Red Rotunda, Cowen Gallery to accompany the #exhibition, 'Self-made: zines and artist books' (in the Blue Rotunda), with different stall holders on both days. So for those of you thinking it was time to head back to the library to explore 'Self-made' and curl around our 'Looped' exhibition (#LaTrobeReadingRoom), this weekend coming might just be the perfect time to do so.

A special guest performing two nights during the Melbourne season, #LaurenCuthbertson (@londonballerina) has performed the role of #Alice since 2011. She was #ChristopherWheeldon's (@wheeldony) original Alice, like Liddel was to #LewisCarroll, and she was responsible for creating the part. To see her in this role on Wednesday night (@ausballet) is an indescribable joy. She inhabits every inch of the role, from extended fingertips to light pointe play. And amid all of the wordplay transformed into theatrical might, she is utterly hypnotic, with Christopher Rodgers-Wilson's Knave of Hearts (@chris_ausballet) beautifully smitten.

With her brown hair bobbed, like Alice Liddel, Cuthbertson has returned Alice to (perhaps) her truest form. She no longer recalls John Tenniel's original #illustrations of a long-haired Alice with an overlarge head. And she has nothing to do with the Disney musical of 1951, blonde and in blue. Cuthbertson's Alice knows the rules on the other side of the looking glass. The rules one might adhere to 'aboveground' do not apply here: take the mushroom. Whether #nonsensical or otherwise, she deciphers the rules and applies them, growing accordingly. When you take away the preconceptions of how things should operate, every tick-tock of Alice's extended leg backwards and forwards is a philosophers' dream. Cuthbertson's Alice embraces new reality on its own terms in a playful, off-kilter world, and jumps on a sponge cake (with an inbuilt trampoline). She throws herself with abandon, safe in the knowledge she'll be caught, and her legs make perfect right angles, mid-air. Rules to live by, above- or underground.
