While picking up food, medicine, and litter supplies for our current tiny #fostercat, we couldn’t resist calling in on the #cats up for adoption at the #RSPCA Burwood shelter. This tatty-eared, grey-tufted dear is Robbie (No. 879203), a 5-year-old hopeful at the RSPCA.

'Count me in', a new article on #FjordReview takes you in my pocket to 'More up a tree' at Melbourne Festival. (Also posted to Marginalia: http://www.graciahaby.com) "Within their glass #enclosure, White sat in the corner behind his drum kit. He had cast off his boots, and was using them like two soft vessels to hold his sticks. From where I sat, I could see his socked feet at the pedals, lending an air of spying-on-the-neighbours candour to the performance. He exchanged a quiet smile with de Serpa Soares as she mapped out the space with increasing intensity and pace. Caught unawares, as they teased out movement in response to #sound and sound in response to #movement, for the main, their containment appeared a liberating sanctuary. Hidden behind a wall of noise, de Serpa Soares could yell at the top of her lungs, but I couldn’t fully hear her. She shook sound from her body as if coaxing it all the way from her little toes, up her legs and torso, and out of her mouth. There goes the hard day; and over there, the weight of the world, discarded. They were playing, releasing, experimenting, and I was watching, experiencing, vicariously. The two of them, to paraphrase the filmmaker Andrei #Tarkovsky (when he wrote of the distortion of time as a means of giving it rhythmical expression), “sculpting in time!” Later, a little ‘cha-cha-cha’ sing-song movement, which I defy anyone to say or do huffily; some words and actions are happy making, no matter how you spin them.” ▫️

Today, let’s lift the lid on ‘Disrupted and rumpled’, sitting in the @library_vic #domedais, as part of ‘Looped’. “The #moon rolled in front of the sun, snuffing the light like Wee Willie Winkie come early, ‘tapping at the window, crying at the lock …. ‘Hey, Willie Winkie, are ye comin' ben? The cat's singin grey thrums to the sleepin hen.’’ And I walked through the #silvered scene, of a day turned night.

A solar #eclipse, folklore tells, and #nature feels unordered, unexpected, even animalistic, as the sky wolves of the Vikings chase the orbs of the sun and moon. But an eclipse is also, in #ornithological wings, a term used to describe a duck whose markings are veiled during moulting of the breeding plumage.

Suddenly from one #celestial body obscuring the light of another to a small bird’s distinctive markings, eclipsed, I feel myself to be a tiny, tiny speck. The path ahead, an #unfinished, unfixed, ever changing #puzzle.”

‘Take a lesson from the ground’, created for our part in ‘The Confessional’, coming up at @mailboxartspace. We will be installing collages and drawings in three mailboxes, alongside Pia Johnson, Lucy Foster, Julia Powles, Stephanie Karavasilis, and Laura McPhee-Browne. From the 1st of November through until the 2nd of December, 2017. Opening night, Thursday the 2nd November, 6–8pm; see you there, friends. “Half of a friendship necklace, a childhood medal, a wedding band, a letter sealed and never read. A #confession, a #secret, a gift, what lies hidden behind these everyday objects now embedded with symbolic meaning? ‘The Confessional’ seeks to examine the relationship between the confession and the confessional, and how #objects intimate to an individual can encompass #collective resonance and #memories. Situated within a series of #mailboxes, the #exhibition space is designed to keep communication spaces private and separate, and yet when illuminated, also makes this personal communication visible and public. Visitors will be invited to actively peer in to examine the artist’s intimate confession that will in turn lead them to confront their own secrets, fears, disappointments and longing.” Curated by Carly Richardson and Alice Dickens. 🐆

Today, let’s peer in the second cabinet of ‘Looped’, and steal a closer look at ‘No longer six feet under’. “The sea had risen, forming new tidal marks around the trunks of buildings. It had bleached the foliage of the trees. It had taken the colour from the #wings of birds, #butterflies, and moths, also, making a fable of my pocket.

As I had slept, Atlantis rose, or so it seemed. Bringing with it a band of subterranean garden-hose sea snakes and rusted shopping trolley chariots. Ring pulls, wrappers, waste, and gelato spoons too.

As what was sunken now bobbed to the #surface, I sought to crown a fallen #rodent burning in the light, but my eyes alighted on the #gleam of a beer cap masquerading as a coin.

Minding the sludge, I had slipped the hook. I pulled the neck of my t-shirt back in place, and #gambolled ever onwards.”

One of five 8-page, concertina bound artists’ books. Inkjet print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308gsm, with covers mounted on gold-trimmed board, housed in a printed slipcase on 225gsm Buffalo board. Printed by Arten (covers, pages) and Bambra Press (slipcases). Each an edition of 6, with an artists’ proof.
