Let there be the wearing of masks. Let there be the music, fox friends, and utter abandon. Let there be noise, laughter, mayhem. Let lights shine bright, motivating forces soar, voodoo spirits rumble.

THIRTEEN SEASONS (IN ONE DAY)
hanging upside down
a rustle of lorikeet—
mistaken for a leaf
the tide is out
seagulls mine the silt
I neatly sidestep a desicated mouse
the ceaseless whir of cicadas
the chirrup of blackbirds
in the clinging heat of dusk
beyond the Norfolk Island pines
a tanker splits
the iron-grey sea and sky in two
in one ear
and out the other—
the wind blows
