REEL TO REAL FOR THE BIG ISSUE

Happy to see our collage created especially for Stephen A Russell’s ‘Reel to Real’ in the current edition of The Big Issue (17–30 April, 2020, No. 610, p. 32).

We heartily recommend you purchase a copy of the magazine.

The Big Issue magazine — usually sold on the streets across Australia by those experiencing homelessness, marginalisation and disadvantage — can now be accessed on-demand, direct to any device, for the same price of $9.

Half of the funds raised from each digital edition sale will go into a newly established Hardship Fund, which will provide immediate relief to at-risk vendors and long-term support to help vendors get back on their feet.

Gracia Haby & Louise Jennison, collage for Reel to Real, 2020 (As ever, we created a handful of collages for The Big Issue to pick from to accompany the piece.)

Gracia Haby

I have been collaborating with Louise Jennison since 1999, making artists’ books, collages, large-scale installations, prints, drawings, zines, and various tales. Besotted still, it appears, with paper for its adaptable, concealable, revealing nature, we use an armoury of play, the poetic and familiar too, with the intention of luring you into our A(rtists’ books) to Z(ines).

As artists and wildlife carers, our practice frequently concerns the natural world, addressing themes of conservation and biodiversity. Our home-based studio is also home to our wildlife shelter, Tiny but Wild.

I collage with words about dance for Fjord Review.
